Seemples.

Send your details to Sue and Mac, display@porscheclubgb.com, and they'll do the rest. Possibly time to do a sticky to explain the display register but Mac and Sue are incredibly busy people and spend most of their spare time on Club stuff already!

As a new member (this week!) I am slowly trawling through the website and member docs to see what the Club offers and when I came upon the reference to the Registers in the Welcome letter, which referred me to the Porsche file and the Porsche Post, neither publication actually explains the purpose behind having a register. And whilst I found many of the articles in PP interesting, they didn't persuade me to "register". There just didn't appear to be any good apparent reason. One event invited all porsches so why the seemingly exclusiveness of that Register event? Is there a reason why I was asked information about my car upon joining when this information is seemingly not put to any purpose? Sorry for being naive. Perhaps a "sticky" would solve all my questions, do you think? Cheers!

Hi Andre,

Registers are how the Club deals with individual models, plus the Display register as an extra to host a database of cars willing to be used for photo shoots, film, exhibitions etc.

The Registers all run very differently, depending on the needs of the model in question. For instance, the Boxsters hve a massive Register with all sorts going on from holidays to technical advice, wheras the few members of the Carrera GT Register aren't likely to want to discuss the best way to change their own spark plugs.

My 944 Register is very informal, with loads of little gatherings around the country each year along with a great sense of cameraderie at major events, where we try to group together. We have loads of help with technical matters, spares sourcing, future developement, track cars, all sorts of things. Along with a very lively forum.

Your Register Secretary should be sending info on your specific Register when your details are passed to him by the office, if a letter and Register Sticker didn't come from included with your new Member pack. Or, make the effort and pick the phone up, I always like to hear from new members. Half the job of being a Register Secretary is knowing what people want us to offer!

Hope that helps,

Hi Andre,
First of all welcome to the club. You are right it is all a bit confusing and Paul has described the 944 Register, of which we are also members, very well. the Display Register is simple also. We are the intermediaries for magazines and film companies who are looking for Porsches to use for articles, photo shoots, and indeed as props for films and in some cases adverts. We hold a list of members who are happy to have their cars used or portrayed. The most recent being a British fim company needing a modern 911. The owner would be driving the car himself and later be invited to attend the premier and meet the actors who in this case were well known stars. We found a willing member and he will now have been in touch with the producers.
We have about 300 cars on the Register but still need more. The requests are usually very specific , colour, model and sometimes modified.
Hope this helps.

Thanks for your prompt response Mac & Sue. I'll see what other members make of this. Don't particularly want notoriety at my time of life! Keep up the good work though because what you do is always a thankless task. Andre
